Ancient vicariance is reinforced by adaptive divergence in the southern beech: Contributions from geogenomics

چکیده

Abstract Aim Geogenomics seeks to understand geological processes linked lineage divergence. However, the mechanisms that conserve ancient signals in spite of gene flow are still unclear. In southern beech, deep divergence produced by vicariant events is associated with marine transgressions. We hereby evaluate hypothesis this maintained diversifying selection. Location Southern Argentina and Chile. Taxon Nothofagus dombeyi. Methods The means analysis molecular variance (AMOVA), principal coordinate analysis, assignment tests multiple matrix regression analyses were assessed using chloroplast DNA neutral outlier single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Several environmental variables used characterize potential within‐species niche structuring genotype–environment associations. Results Two deep‐rooted latitudinally structured lineages resulted from cpDNA, northern cluster being more genetically diverse than one. Of total 2943 SNPs, 33 identified as outliers two genetic clusters. Neutral SNPs yielded no structure AMOVA, whereas higher (>75%) F ST values obtained for cpDNA SNPs. Precipitation mostly population clusters suggested climatic niches, consisting cold dry south variable precipitation, temperature soil conditions north. Associations distance environment geography isolation‐by‐distance isolation‐by‐ecology or isolation‐by‐environment effects. Main conclusions Ancient N. dombeyi, originally driven vicariance, has been selection under distinct also define niches. Deeply rooted phylogeographical breaks can be conserved continuously distributed species absence current geographical barriers. Yet, physical gradients exert differential selective pressures, which face flow. As a result, lead geographically localized differentially adapted groups populations detected combination traditional novel genomic methods.

Treating fossils as terminal taxa in divergence time estimation reveals ancient vicariance patterns in the palpimanoid spiders.

Incorporation of fossils into biogeographic studies can have a profound effect on the conclusions that result, particularly when fossil ranges are nonoverlapping with extant ranges. This is the case in archaeid spiders, where there are known fossils from the Northern Hemisphere, yet all living members are restricted to the Southern Hemisphere. To better understand the biogeographic patterns of ...

Adsorption of Lead from Aqueous Solution by Modified Beech Sawdust

Sawdust is now being investigated as an adsorbent to remove contaminants from aqueous solution. Heavy metals can be decreased very effectively with the organic material. In this research, adsorption of Pb (II) onto modified beech sawdust in a batch system was investigated. Sawdust was collected from timber mill of Qom, Iran, and modified with H2SO4 and NaOH. Then, the effe...

Adaptive divergence of ancient gene duplicates in the avian MHC class II beta.

Gene duplication and neofunctionalization are known to be important processes in the evolution of phenotypic complexity. They account for important evolutionary novelties that confer ecological adaptation, such as the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), a multigene family crucial to the vertebrate immune system. In birds, two MHC class II β (MHCIIβ) exon 3 lineages have been recently charac...

Tracing ancient evolutionary divergence in parasites.

For parasitic platyhelminths that generally lack a fossil record, there is little information on the pathways of morphological change during evolution. Polystomatid monogeneans are notable for their evolutionary diversification, having originated from ancestors on fish and radiated in parallel with tetrapod vertebrates over more than 425 million years (My). This study focuses on the genus Polys...
